Bishop's Committee for the Environment
Episcopal Communities Celebrating and Healing God's Creation
The Bishop's Committee for the Environment (BCE) is committed to assisting churches in the Diocese of Olympia become better stewards of Creation. The BCE provides information through workshops, its newsletter, and this website. By networking faith and environment groups throughout the Diocese, the Bishop's Committee for the Environment shares resources and celebrates success.
The Healing Our Planet Earth (HOPE) Conference, co-sponsored by the Diocese of Olympia in 2008, inspired local Episcopalians to re-vision and re-imagine the mission of the existing Committee for the Environment. The Bishop's Committee for the Environment was the result. Under the leadership of Kate O'Sullivan, the BCE began its work with renewed commitment and energy. Since May of 2008 the BCE has developed partnerships with other faith-based environmental groups and begun networking the faith and environment committees of our local churches. A sub-committee, the Genesis Covenant Task Force, has begun developing procedures to help churches conduct an energy audit and reduce their carbon footprint. The Work Plan [Link to Work Plan] of the BCE lists its objectives for the next six years.
