Convention 2010
Our 2010 convention is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, October 29-30, at the Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center. As our 100th convention since admission as a diocese by the General Convention, this will be a celebration of who we are, where we have come from and where we are going. The convention will convene just after lunch on Friday and conclude by late afternoon on Saturday. This is our first year of a 1 1/2 day convention with several notable changes:
- The call to order will be at 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon, allowing delegations to travel on Friday morning and keeping the need for hotel accommodations to one night.
- Friday evening will feature the Convention Eucharist with ordinations and the Bishop's Address to the convention.
- Saturday will feature a working lunch with lunch provided with payment of the convention registration fee.
- The registration fee of $25 will provide all convention materials and Saturday lunch.

HOTEL INFORMATION
We look forward to being back at the Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center, located at 17620 International Blvd., Seattle, just across from SeaTac Airport. The room rate is $129 single/double; onsite parking is an additional charge. Free wireless Internet access (with code) will be available in the common areas of the Conference Center. To make hotel reservations call the toll-free number 1-800-HILTONS and request the group rate for the Diocese of Olympia or book online using the click-through link here to begin, using the unique group code "DIO". The cut-off to receive the group rate is October 7, 2010.
A note about the room rate/block/convention and scholarships: As part of our contract and commitment to the Hilton we guarantee a certain number of room nights (based on our history) and a certain amount of expenditures through catered events. In return we have exclusive use of the Conference Center and almost exclusive use of the hotel, all with a very low room rental for meeting space. It is important, therefore, if at all possible, for attendees to stay at the Hilton and within the Diocese of Olympia room block. We understand that things have changed since the contract was signed with the Hilton and that our times are still challenging. Scholarships: If you or your congregation are unable to afford one night at the Hilton (and you are coming from a distance that makes commuting impossible) or if the slightly higher rate at the Hilton over other hotels in the area prohibits you from booking at the Hilton, we encourage you to contact Dede Moore at 206-325-4200, ext. 2022, to discuss scholarships available to cover the difference between lower cost hotels and the Hilton or possibly even one-night's lodging at the Hilton. Also, if you do book outside of the Diocese of Olympia block - for instance through AAA - please let Dede know as our contract allows us to count rooms booked outside of the room block for our event. This is an important event in the life of our Diocese and we don't want anyone to be left out.
RESOLUTIONS
A word about resolutions: Many times convention members have topics or issues they would like discussed by convention that do not require an accept/reject vote - and in many instances, when submitted as resolutions, would set up a win/lose situation that precludes further discussion. Such topics or issues should be submitted as potential agenda items or for discussion consideration through the Bishop's Executive for Governance, Dede Moore, , rather than through the legislative process via resolutions. Agenda items will be added as time permits and as fits with the theme of this or a future convention. Submitting resolutions: Resolutions may be submitted for consideration using the format posted here. All submitted resolutions are requested to be sponsored by more than one individual, whether it be a congregation, regional ministry, commission or committee of the diocese. The 2010 canonical deadline for submitting resolutions is September 14.
