2011 Convention Wrap-Up

The 2011 annual convention was held October 21-22, at the Lynnwood Convention Center. The conveniton was well and ably hosted by members from Trinity Church in Everett and St. Andrew's Church in Seattle. Attendees gathered for two days to hear the annual Bishop's Address, explore exhibits and program resources, elect members to diocesan governing bodies, and debate and vote on resolutions. The convention acted on proposed changes to the diocesan constitution and canons, presented by chair, Doug Oles; heard a report from diocesan treasurer, Steve Faust; and adopted the 2012 diocesan operating budget.
There were opportunities to attend pre-convention workshops on various topics from technology to faith formation, year round stewardship to congregational development, as well as plenary sessions delving deeper into the theme of "Living the Eucharist." Two congregations, St. Matthew/San Mateo, Auburn and St. Luke, Seattle asked for and received approval to change from parish to mission status. Convention members also heard reports and presentations from Church World Service, Episcopal Relief & Development, the Dismantling Racism Training Team, Faith Action Network, Mission to Seafarers and the Bishop's Committee on the Environment.
The Bishop's Cross was presented to Steve Hartwell (posthumous) and Ray Miller. The new Ky Chen "No Problem" Employee Excellence award was presented to Anne Brown from Church of the Good Shepherd, Vancouver and Ruby McLachlan from St. Andrew, Seattle. The Eucharist included ordination of two deacons: Mark Melis Blindheim & Carter Ricks Hawley.
