Becoming a Baptismal Community in the Wet, Wonderful and Unchurched Pacific Northwest

In this workshop on the baptismal covenant, participants will be asked to consider how a robust baptismal identity helps Christians flourish in a region of the country where most of our neighbors forego participation in religious communities. Through presentations, thoughtful conversation and small-group discussion, consider the ways in which the waters and words of baptism draw us into the mystery of God and shape a welcoming and a challenging way of life.

Torvend’s writings include the recent "Flowing Water, Uncommon Birth: Christian Baptism in a Post-Christian Culture” (Augsburg Fortress). He teaches History Of Christianity at Pacific Lutheran University and is a priest associate at St. Paul, Seattle.
