Youth and Young Adults

We believe that the church has a particular call to reach out to and attract people under age 35, many of whom are the second and third generations to have no knowledge of Christ and the church. We believe that if the church cannot discover how to reach, feed and attract people under 35 that we may well lose the tremendous leadership and spirituality this generation offers the church. Therefore, our mission field is wherever we find this generation. We must engage with, listen to and commit resources toward all those who are 35 and younger. We equip congregations to relate to younger people and build ministry with them, and we do the same work on a diocesan level.

  • High School Youth Conference (HYC):  "I love HYC because I can come here and be myself and people love me and accept me just as I am." Contemporary music and worship, games, workshops, conversation and just hanging out at the dance are all a part of this fantastic weekend for youth in grades 9-12.  Come join the fun and meet people who, through Jesus Christ, see the goodness in all of us. Bring a friend...just make sure the fill out a HYC registration form!
  • Junior High Youth Conference (JYC): Faith-based fun!  Young people in grades 6-9 are invited to join us as we navigate the “turning-into- teenager years.”  With lots of community-building games and activities this, is the place to find friends who will be with you through it all! Around 100 youth come together from all over Western Washington to share in music, worship and fun! If a friend would like to come along, please have them fill out a JYC registration form.

  • 6-Day Camp: Offered in June, 6-Day combines the elements of an HYC conference with elements of a summer camp.  It is offered to youth who have completed grades 9-12.  The youth campers and adult staff members live in community and focus on a theme that is carried through in music, worship, speakers, workshops, prayer, games and in small and large group activities.  Typical summer camp activities, such as a talent show and craft activities, are also offered.  The community is supported each day by visiting clergy from around the Diocese.  6-Day is held at Huston Camp & Conference Center.
  • Episcopal Youth Event & Provencial Youth Event: Both events take place every three years. At the EYE conference, close to 1500 people will gather from all over the United States and beyond to share in a fun-filled week. PYE is for youth in Province VIII to come together to learn more about each other. Discovery, worship, music, recreation, spirituality, laughter, tears, and friendship are all a part of these life-changing experiences in Christian Community.

  • Diocesan Convention: The youth and youth leaders of the Diocese have a special opportunity to serve as pages and tellers at the yearly Diocesan Convention. Also,  participating as a Youth Presence, having a seat, voice and vote on the Convention floor is a unique leadership opportunity and an exciting way for young people to voice their concerns and opinions about issues and topics of discussion.
  • Youth Council: Once a year, youth run for election to be seated on the Diocesan Youth Ministry Committee. Representing all parts of the Diocese, the youth help to plan youth conferences for the year, organize fund raisers and are the governing body that represents the interests of youth attending the conferences.
  • Young Adults: Calling all 18- to 30-year-olds! Join us as we wrestle with real-life issues facing Young Adults today. Share your views and experiences with others around topics relevant to your life. Build friendships, speak from the heart and have fun as you share in these weekend getaways just for you.
